Dr Jason Hockings is an experienced, Victorian trained orthopaedic surgeon based in Melbourne with advanced subspecialist fellowship training in elective hip and knee surgery. His main areas of interest are hip replacement surgery via the direct anterior approach, hip arthroscopy, robotic joint replacement surgery, knee replacement surgery via the subvastus minimally invasive muscle sparing approach, sports knee surgery such as ACL reconstruction and meniscus repair and revision hip and knee replacement surgery. He also has fellowship training and performs shoulder surgery including shoulder replacements.
Educational background and early career: Jason graduated from the University of Queensland in 2011 and spent five years working as a hospital and non-training orthopaedic registrar before beginning the Victorian Orthopaedic Training Program, which he completed in 2021.
Advanced training and fellowships: In 2022 he further developed his skills through a fellowship in Melbourne with Professor John O’Donnell in hip arthroscopy and total hip replacement via the direct anterior approach. He then completed an advanced training fellowship in Edinburgh, UK, where he gained expertise in complex primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery, including robotic-assisted joint replacement procedures. Upon returning to Australia in 2023, Jason undertook a further advanced arthroplasty, sports, shoulder and trauma surgery fellowship on the NSW central coast.
Current practice and location: Jason has public hospital appointments and works regularly in Melbourne at St Vincent’s, Box Hill and Maroondah hospitals and in Albury Wodonga at Albury Wodonga Health and operates privately at Waverly and Albury Private Hospitals. He consults from his rooms at 21 Erin St, Richmond in Melbourne and from the specialist suits at both Waverly and Albury Private Hospitals.
