EDUCATION AFFILIATIONS AND TRAINING

Continuing professional development is an essential element in ensuring that we have up-to-date skills and knowledge in order to perform our roles in a contemporary healthcare setting. Ongoing education is a career long process that enhances our personal and professional growth, improves our performance and keeps us relevant in an ever-changing environment.

Albury Wodonga Private Hospital is committed to ensuring continuing professional development opportunities are available to staff through creating, promoting and supporting education in the following ways:

  • Clinical School Partnership with La Trobe University
  • Traineeship and apprenticeship opportunities
  • Ramsay Healthcare as a Registered Training Organisation delivers inhouse programs to a nationally recognised Certificate IV level.
  • Hosts undergraduate and post graduate nursing, medical and allied health students from tertiary institutions regionally
  • Clinical and non-clinical competency programs are in place to support workplace practice
  • Strong links have been established with local tertiary education providers such as Charles Sturt University, University of NSW, Wodonga Institute of TAFE and Riverina TAFE

The Learning And Development Unit

The Learning and Development Unit (LADU) facilitates Albury Wodonga Private Hospital to achieve their organisational goals for the present and the future in a responsive, dynamic and innovative way.

The LADU is comprised of the following staff

  • Clinical Risk Coordinator
  • Professional Development/Improving Performance Coordinator
  • Staff Development and Education Manager

The LADU promote and support activities, which result in

  • Professional development.

The LADU supports staff and offers the following services:

  • Education and training resource
  • Practical skill set training
  • Competency training and assessment
  • Career pathway planning and support
  • Coordinate hospital orientation programs
  • Maintains staff learning and development database attendance
  • Coordination of Graduate Nurse Program
  • Coordination of post graduate education
  • Coordination, implementation and evaluation of improving performance program
  • Coordination of hospital library including journals and other references
  • Clinical School Coordination
  • Coordination of internal education program and calendar of events
  • Processes external training requests
  • Links to tertiary sector – what course is right for me?
  • Comprehensive education program
  • Mentor and preceptorship training
  • Staff Health Program
  • Manual Handling training and support
  • Exposure counselling
  • Occupational Health and Safety support
  • Wound care support
  • Clinical Risk Management- Infection Control- Waste Management
  • Brochure and print material production
  • Traineeship and Apprenticeship coordination
  • Marketing and event coordination
  • Policy and procedure development
  • Conducts education needs analysis
  • Coaching and mentor support
  • Conducts assessments up to and including Certificate IV
  • Ensures Library, educational texts, journals and electronic website accessibility

All permanent staff of Albury Wodonga Private Hospital are eligible to seek support to attend external conferences, seminars and developmental programs after 12 months continual service with AWPH. Approval will be made using a fair and equitable process with reference to a satisfactory annual performance review.
